Kids with Type 2 Diabetes

WHO, ME GET TYPE 2 DIABETES ?

What is type 2 diabetes?
Type 2 diabetes results from the body (the pancreas) not being able to produce enough insulin or use it properly. Insulin is a hormone needed for glucose to enter the cells and be converted into energy.

What causes it?
It used to be that only old people got it. Now younger people are getting Type 2 Diabetes. We are not exercising as much as we used to and also still eating too much fatty food. Studies show that children and adults who:

• or do not do have enough physical activity
• or have high blood pressure or high cholesterol
• or have a family member with diabetes
have a high risk of developing type 2 Diabetes.

What are the affects?
Risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and eye problems.
