Kids and Warts

Almost fifty perecent of kids get warts at some time or the other. Warts, in the true sense are benign tumors which develop when keratinocytes, a type of skin cell, is contaminated by the wart virus. There are various forms of warts, the typical being rough bumps which appear on fingers and hands. Others are flat warts, genital warts, plantar warts, and water warts (molluscum contagiosum). The difference relies on the kinds, location, and painfulness of the wart. Frequently warts appear on fingers and palms and normally are painless. Plantar warts appear on the soles and are generally painful. Periungal warts show up across the finger and toe nail. Warts which appear on the face are flat warts.

The signs of the common warts are that the pores and skin develops an irregular surface and turns rough. A dome begins to appear around a day after infection. A popular myth is that warts have roots, however they don’t. They grow on the dermis, which is the highest most layer of the skin. The black portion is because of broken veins and clotted blood.

Warts come and go at many phases of life like childhood and teenage years. They normally go away by themselves. However some could be very painful, can spread rapidly and a few of them wont go away for years. Such types of warts ought to, undoubtedly, be treated. The most typical therapy among the many pediatricians is cryotherapy. They are going to freeze the warts using liquid nitrogen. Cantharidin may also be applied, which is a painless remedy however may end up in painful blisters at the finish of the day. The negative is that these therapies sometimes trigger blistering and a few warts won’t come off in a single sitting. If the warts won’t still budge they are further handled with robust salicylic acid, intralesional immune-remedy, bleomycin, or a pulsed dye laser. Aldara will also be utilized in worst cases. Because of some remedies the warts grow to the tip of the blister, which results in a bigger wart and a few might even end up in a scar.

molluscum contagiosum or water wart

Besides other common wart treatments, the most well-known home remedy is duct tape. The affected area is covered with duct tape for about six days. If within that time period, the tape peels off, it should be reapplied. After the sixth day, the duct tape should be removed and the wart should be soaked in water and a pumice stone or emery board should be used to scrap the top skin of the wart. After this, the duct tape should be reapplied again within twenty four hours and the same procedure should be repeated until the whole wart disappears. This procedure takes at least two months to get rid of the wart completely. Some kids hesitate to put duct tape on parts which are visible, like fingers and legs. They can be encouraged by making them wear coloured duct tape, other than grey. Many home wart freezing and removal kits are also available in the market whose help can be taken.

Warts spread by direct contact with the wart or any materials that the infected individual has used like a used handtowel which has been contaminated. It is contagious and therefore it is suggested to avoid it on the very sight of it. All the cuts, rashes and bites must be cleaned frequently and must be kept covered. One other measure for prevention is having closed footwear in public places.
